Blog Traffic, Pinterest for business, Pinterest for beginners

There's a lot of information out there about Pinterest for business. But are you sure that the info you're reading is up-to-date? Many bloggers and marketers are hopping on the Pinterest bandwagon. They're putting together tons of posts about it.

The problem is that the info they're putting out isn't up-to-date. They think that because those strategies worked for them years ago they still work.

Pinterest is different now than it was a few years ago. One strategy in particular no longer works. That's repinning the same exact pin multiple times to the same board.

Even repinning one pin to multiple boards isn't enough. If you want blog traffic, or traffic to your offers then keep reading to find out more.

The New Pinterest Guidelines

Recently Pinterest came out with new guidelines for pinners. Everyone was shocked by the information. This meant that the strategies they used were no longer valid.

This is why you can't keep using the same strategies for years on end. Every once in a while you need to stay up-to-date.

Here are a few of the most important Pinterest updates:
  • Pin no more than 25 times a day
  • Fresh pins are king
  • Pinning one pin to more than 10 boards could get you marked as spam
  • Pinning one pin to the same board repeatedly could get you marked as spam
Many Pinterest users were getting their business accounts suspended. Pinterest started becoming aware of their habits.

They were pinning 50 times a day. Or pinning to 20+ boards. They were pinning the same pin to the same board multiple times. At the time my account was one of the few that wasn't marked as spam.

That's because I wasn't doing any of the things everyone else was doing. I took a lot of different webinars, and workshops run by Pinterest experts that helped me to avoid spammy tactics.

What Does This Mean for Your Blog or Biz?

This means that Pinterest wants you to create more fresh pins. Fresh pins are king. In order to get blog traffic from Pinterest, you need to make more than 1 pin per blog post, product or offer. As long as you use a different image you can add the same URL.

Creating multiple pins per URL also means you don't have to create content all the time. I know many bloggers like myself simply don't have the time to make tons of content per week.

If you don't have time to make new content create new pins for your old content. This is what I've been doing. Now more than half of my blog traffic comes from Pinterest.

My suggestion is to create at least 3 pins per post. As long as you're using a new image you can pin the same URL to the same board! Use Tailwind to schedule all of your new fresh pins to go out at the same time. That's the easiest way to do it.

Plus Tailwind came out with a new feature called SmartGuide. SmartGuide lets you know if you're putting your account at risk. It helps you to avoid spammy practices. With SmartGuide you'll always be up-to-date with Pinterest best practices.

SmartGuide helps me a lot. If I'm about to schedule a pin to too many boards it lets me know. It gives me peace of mind. Thanks to SmartGuide it's easy to avoid putting my account at risk. SmartGuide is free for Tailwind users.

How to Make Fresh Pins

Graphic Design Programs

I recommend the following programs to create pins:

They're free too. But each one does have a premium version that you can upgrade to. But the upgrade isn't required to use the program. I've used all of those programs to create pins. It just depends on what your preferences are.

Stock Photos

I recommend getting your stock images from the following:

They give away 4 free images per month. If you need more then upgrade to the paid plan. Don't use the free images from Unsplash. You'll end up using the same images as everyone else. This means Pinterest will get confused as to what your pin is about.

Pin Resources

If you stink at pin designs I recommend this course. You'll learn how to create pins that make people click. Or if you don't have time for a course then I recommend these templates. Templates save you tons of time. I use templates all the time in addition to making my own.

How to Avoid Getting Marked as Spam

Pinterest for business

The best way to avoid getting marked as spam is through Tailwind's SmartGuide feature. It lets you know:

  • If you're scheduling your pin to more than 10 boards
  • The latest best practices
  • Strategies you should implement
  • Monitors the frequency of your pinning
  • If you should create more pins
If you're pinning more than 25 times a day it'll let you know. If you're doing anything that might get your account flagged it'll let you know. If everything is good to go it'll say all clear.

In my opinion, it's not worth the risk. Many bloggers had a hard time last year getting their accounts back. It took time and a lot of emails.

But don't take my word for it. Try Tailwind for yourself. You can schedule up to 100 pins for free with Tailwind. That way you can judge for yourself if it's right for you.
