How to Create Your Own Graphics for Free

You don't have to be a graphic designer to create your own graphics. Nor do you have to hire one. You can create your own graphics for free. You don't have to spend tons of money to create high-quality professional graphics. If I can do it with no graphic design experience you can too! I am going to teach you for free! No having to take a Udemy class or sign up for a webinar. Here's how:

1)Find your background images/graphics

You don't have to create background images yourself or graphics. There are tons of them that you can use online for free legally! You can find them without using Google Images. Shocking right?! I do not recommend using Google Images either. Most of the time those images are copyrighted. Which means you can get in trouble for using them.

The sites I recommend to find your background images and graphics are:

  • Pixabay
  • Unsplash
  • Freepik
  • Google Fonts
  • Pexels
Those are all free websites! You don't have to pay a cent for any pictures, graphics or fonts. You are free to legally use those pictures however you want. Pixabay, Unsplash, and Pexels are sites where you can find free stock pictures. Freepik is where you can find tons of free graphics and vectors. You can even use the vectors/graphics from Freepik for commercial use. All they ask is that you credit the designer. The site teaches you how to do that. You can find tons of free fonts on Google Fonts to download to your computer.

2) Edit your images and graphics with free design tools

When it comes to editing it depends on how you want to use the images and graphics you found. If you need it for a blog post you can use stock images and select graphics as is with no additional editing. Other than resizing you are good to go. If you want to add overlays and text here are the tools you can use.

BeFunky Photo Editor

The only online photo editor I recommend is I know there are others like PicMonkey or Pixlr. I don't recommend those ones. Pixlr is too confusing and complicated to use. PicMonkey has very limited free features. Even to resize your images on PicMonkey you need a premium account. The only reason any blogger recommends PicMonkey is that they are an affiliate. Which means anytime you sign up for PicMonkey through their link they earn a commission.

I am not an affiliate of BeFunky either. I recommend it because I use it myself. It has tons of free features. It's so easy to use too. It has a collage maker, designer, and photo editor. To use the features of the designer you do need a premium account. But a lot of the features under the photo editor are free! You don't need a premium account to upload your own pictures, resize, or add text. Overlay, blur, blemish fix, and smoothing are free!

Just upload your pictures, graphics, vectors, etc. to BeFunky. Then click text and presto! You can add any text you want. Resizing and saving is free too. You don't need an account to save your work. I also love that you can save to Google Drive from BeFunky. You can upload to the site from your Google Drive account for free.

PowerPoint, Paint, and FatPaint

Yes, you can use powerpoint as a graphic design tool. There are many ways to use powerpoint besides just creating a powerpoint presentation. Many people don't realize this. With powerpoint, you can even save your images/graphics into any format you want. If you don't have powerpoint just use Google's version or open office.

All you have to do is open powerpoint, click blank presentation, then click insert for your graphics. Powerpoint will even give you design suggestions. Out of all the design tools out there I find powerpoint to be the easiest to use.

Another tool you can use is paint. Best of all it's free and already on your PC. FatPaint is another free design tool. Just type in FatPaint software in any search engine. The link will come up. All you need to use it is Adobe Flashplayer installed. You can upload your own images/graphics into FatPaint too.

3) Canva

Canva is an insanely popular graphic tool. So many businesses, entrepreneurs, social media marketers, and content marketers use Canva. You can create graphics for social media, emails, blog posts, posters, etc. Anything you need graphics for Canva has it. The best part of all Canva is free to use! You don't have to pay a monthly fee. There are some templates that do require a monetary fee to use them. But most graphics on Canva are free. If you are looking to become a social media marketer then knowing Canva is a must. Most jobs in the field nowadays require potential employees to know it. Even most freelancing gigs require the use of Canva.

4) Use Apps

Now if you don't want to go through all the hassle I listed above there is another way. There are free apps that you can use to create your graphics. The free apps that I use are LogoMaker and Social Post. With LogoMaker you can make as many Logos as you want for free. You can create a design from scratch or use their templates. It's free to use any template they have. You don't have to worry about copyright either.

I absolutely love Social Post! You can create graphics for social media, headers, ads, web banners, certificates, newsletters, flyers, posters, business cards, email banners, resumes, invitations, etc. You can create graphics for a variety of social media networks. Best of all everything is already sized.

All the social media post templates are free. But only select templates for everything else is free. You can also create your own from scratch using the app for free. There are other apps that help you create graphics too. Just go to the app store or play store and type in free graphics tools.

4) Getting graphics without spending a lot

Now if what I mentioned above didn't work for you don't worry. There is another way to get the graphics you want. Just use Fiverr. With Fiverr, you can get professional high-quality graphics. How? Just hire one of the hundreds of graphic artists selling their services. There are many graphic artists selling their services for $5.

Once you pay you can use the graphics however you want. You can even use them for commercial use. I know someone who bought 3 graphics for $15 using Fiverr. He uses the graphics for his print-on-demand business.

Creating your own graphics doesn't have to be expensive. There is no need to buy expensive software or hire a graphic designer. You just need to know the right tricks, and methods. If you are looking to get a career in social media marketing or content marketing knowing how to create some graphics is a must-have skill. Just experiment with the free tools I listed to get some experience.
